Old versions of Game Maker
Version 6 of Game Maker is a major rewrite.
This makes it not fully compatible with previous versions. Also
the new version has higher requirements for the machines that
run the games. If you are working on old games or your machine
does not have a 3D graphics card with at least 16MB of memory,
you might want to use version 5.3 instead.
Version 5.3 is largely backwards compatible with version 5.2, except that the path mechanism has been changed. It cannot load games created with version 4.x. If you want to load version 4.x games use the Conversion program. You can download version 5.3 here, and execute gmaker.exe. This will install the Game Maker on your machine. If you have problems with downloading executables, you can also download a zip file containing the program. Unzip it and run gmaker.exe inside it to install it. Read the included license agreement before using the program.

The tutorials on the tutorials page are for version 6 of Game Maker and will not
work for older version. Here you find the same tutorials for version 5 of Game Maker.

Please realize that these versions are no longer supported. They also miss important new
features. Files created with the more recent versions cannot be read by older versions. Only
download these if you have an old game that does not work under the most recent version.
